We are thrilled to share the latest news about our new Tawa College bilingual secondary provision, which is set to open in 2025 officially. We're also excited to announce that a new provision teacher has been appointed and will start in week 4 of term 4, 2024. Mary Sleep, our Linden provision lead will work closely with the new teacher to ensure a smooth transition and offer valuable support and guidance. We look forward to introducing the new provision teacher in the coming weeks, as we welcome them into our school.
Currently, we have two enrolled school students from Linden Provision transitioning to the Tawa College provision next year. In week 5 this term, we will host an induction and orientation day for the two students and their whānau. This day will allow them to meet their new teacher, receive timetables, and get familiar with the school layout, stationery needs, and uniform guidelines.
Professional Learning Development (PLD) sessions for Tawa College staff will be held this term and in term 1, 2025. These sessions will focus on how NZSL interpreters work in the classroom environment, audiograms, Deaf culture and Deaf awareness. Tawa College's Year 9 Dean will play an active role in supporting the transition and orientation of students starting in 2025.
We are also pleased to announce an upcoming information evening where we will provide updates on our secondary provision at Tawa College. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion during this event.
When: Thursday, 7 November 2024
Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Where: Ministry of Education Office - Level 1, 7 Heriot Drive, Porirua
Interpreters will be available at this session.
Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks!
