Structuring for growth

Ko Taku Reo has conducted a review of its cultural roles and identified a need to evolve. The Deaf Strategic Lead and Māori Strategic Lead positions, which were initially strategic in nature, now require a stronger operations focus to meet the current needs of the school. As a result, these roles have been disestablished to better support future direction and three new cultural practice roles identified.

These new roles are Deaf Practice Lead, Turi Māori Practice Lead, and Pasifika Practice Lead. These exciting new roles will focus on improving engagement and collaboration for our Deaf, Māori and Pasifika school community. These roles will also increase support for our Deaf, Turi Māori and Pasifika ākonga, whānau and staff.

What is happening with the Executive Principal role and Commissioner/ Board?

Resolving this role has been complex and has impacted timing in this change process. There is a need for the Ministry of Education to reconsider the nature of the ‘school’ we are and the increased diversity of roles and geography within it. We need to ensure that the basis of the role we advertise for has the high experience and breadth of organisational and people management required for our school – one of the biggest schools in NZ.
