Ko Taku Reo Sumner campus - community gardens

Access to our school grounds

We have been fortunate to have two community gardens on our Sumner Campus. The first, known as the Sumner Food Forest, is situated between the resident houses and the van Asch stairs. The second garden is located just off the back field at the corner of Truro Street and Heberden Avenue.

Ko Taku Reo has permanent residential students on our Sumner campus, their safety and wellbeing is our highest priority. To ensure a secure environment for our students, access to certain areas needs to be restricted to public.

Unfortunately, this means that the Sumner Food Forest will no longer be available to the wider community. However, the garden located off the back field (at the corner of Truro Street and Heberden Avenue) remains accessible to the community, as it is in an area that is separate from our residential students. If you need to drive onsite to access the garden, there is an entrance off Heberden Avenue – please contact our Property team who can unlock this for you.

Our school grounds are not freely accessible to the public. If someone is on our school grounds without permission, they may be questioned by a staff member and asked to leave. You can view our full policy here, log in details are available on our website.

We also have legislative responsibilities under child protection laws to ensure student safety at Ko Taku Reo, as well as policies and procedures in place to ensure all members of our community understand their responsibilities for maintaining a safe school environment. More information is available in our Student Wellbeing and Safety policy.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email property@kotakureo.school.nz. We appreciate your understanding and support on this.
