As Term 1 comes to an end, I wanted to give you an update on what we have been up to.

• Recruitment for the new Executive Principal has started; we encourage you to please share the link to the role and the awesome video of our students within your networks.

• We will continue to update you on the progress of the Executive Principal recruitment process on our website; committee updates can be found here: https://kotakureodeafeducation.nz/11-march-committeemeeting.

• Our strategic plan, annual implementation plan (2025) and annual implementation plan progress for 2024 are all available on our website: https://kotakureodeafeducation.nz/strategic-plan-annual-reports.

• We continue to meet regularly with the Ministry, and we are hopeful of a face-to-face meeting with the Minister in term 2.

• We are very excited that the Ministry of Education has awarded Ko Taku Reo a substantial 18-month contract to deliver ‘NZSL for Teachers Professional Learning and Development’. This project will be to design, manage and implement a Professional Learning and Development (PLD) plan to raise NZSL acquisition and use amongst registered teachers of the Deaf and hard of hearing. This has been something we have been advocating for, and it is heartening to be able to start resourcing this appropriately - further updates to come.

• After discussions and consultation with students, staff and our parent community, a decision was made for our Christchurch residences to move to one combined residence.
