Early years
Early Years is our service based on our Auckland and Christchurch campuses and is for children aged 0 – 6 years enrolled in those centres.
The Integrated Service Team can provide specialist support to all children within Ko Taku Reo. Our Early Years Services can be accessed by referral, and can be provided either through:
The Integrated Services Team includes different specialists:
- Assistive Technology Co-ordinator
- Behaviour and Learning Service
- Audiologists
- Orientation and Mobility (Deafblind) BLENNZ
- Social Workers

Audiology service
Audiology services in Auckland are currently being coordinated from Ko Taku Reo’s Auckland campus, with support from Christchurch’s Audiologist.

Teachers and other Ko Taku Reo staff collaboratively work with this role to support the engagement and achievement of all students within Early Years, Enrolled School, Residential and Outreach. Interventions will comprise a range of flexible supports that may benefit individual ākonga, groups of ākonga or kaiako, whole classes or the whole school and may involve exploring systems and practices school-wide.

Orientation and mobility service provides services to blind, deafblind, and vision-impaired children about purposeful movement and provides an understanding of the environment in an age and developmentally appropriate manner.

Assistive technology supplies hearing aid batteries and accessories, and funds the repair and service of hearing aids and remote microphone systems that have been funded by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.

Ko Taku Reo has an Auckland based Social Worker who can provide direct support to Auckland’s Pre-School children and whanau. In Christchurch, Social Work support is contracted to The Christchurch Methodist Mission who works with ko Taku Reo’s Pre-School children and whanau.

The National Early Years SLT service provides support to Deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) learners (0-6 years) enrolled in the Ko Taku Reo Early Childhood settings. We aim to provide an equitable service to all DHH learners across these settings. This includes the Preschool at the Auckland campus and an Early Year Whanau Centre (EYWC) at the Christchurch campus.
